Chandler Street to Provide Affordable Housing for Individuals with Disabilities
Wednesday, November 03, 2010
Rehabilitation work has begun on six units of affordable housing exclusively for individuals with physical and behavioral disabilities. Located at 419 Chandler Street in Northeast Philadelphia, the project development costs (approximately $1.3 million) are funded by a Section 811 Capital Advance through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and by an ARRA-Community Development Block Grant through the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia.
All units will receive updated appliances, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and extra ceiling insulation. In addition, one unit is being converted to a wheel-chair accessible unit, complete with roll-in shower and an ADA-compliant kitchen. A new ramp is being built to offer more convenience and accessibility for those living on the basement level. We expect work to progress through the winter months and for the building to be ready for occupancy in the spring of 2011.Labels: HUD 811, Northeast Philadelphia, preservation, rehabilitation
